Wigan, England, October 30, 2008 — JJB Golf, the UK’s largest golf equipment retailer, and Slazenger, the premium sports equipment brand, today announced that it has signed a two-year sponsorship agreement with professional golfer Gary Wolstenholme. It is the first sponsorship deal that Wolstenholme has signed since turning professional in September 2008.
Gary Wolstenholme (MBE) won The Amateur Championship in 1991 and 2003, as well as many other amateur tournaments around the world. In addition to his second appearance at the U.S. Open in June 2008, he has played in two Masters Championships and on five Walker Cup teams to become Britain and Ireland’s record point scorer. In the 1995 Walker Cup, he famously beat Tiger Woods by one hole at Royal Porthcawl – a feat that no golfer has repeated in the thirteen years since.
The sponsorship agreement, which covers apparel worn by Wolstenholme and five corporate golf events, follows Slazenger Golf’s existing agreement with two renowned British golfers, Tony Jacklin and Sam Torrance OBE.
