SAN FRANCISCO, CA – John Heissenbuttel, Co-Director at Council on Sustainable Biomass Production and President at Phoenix Strategic Solutions to speak at GTCbio’s Future of Bio-Based Chemicals: From Inception to Marketplace conference on September 13-14, 2010.

John Heissenbuttel will give a presentation on “The Council for Sustainable Biomass Production” at the Future of Bio-Based Chemicals: From Inception to Marketplace conference to be held this year in San Francisco, CA on September 13-14, 2010 by GTCbio. The Council for zfor cellulosic biofuel and bioenergy in the United States is produced in a sustainable manner, balancing economic, environmental and social imperatives. The CSBP is seeking to generate broad multi-stakeholder consensus on guidelines for sustainability to set this emerging industry on a course of continuous improvement with full support from growers, germplasm providers, social and environmental interests, biofuel & bioenergy producers and blenders. John Heissenbuttel will provide an overview of CSBP activities to date and their plan for future development and implementation and more at the Future of Bio-based Chemicals forum.

As President of Phoenix Strategic Solutions, John specializes in assisting organizations of all kinds with vulnerability assessments, strategic planning, and issue analysis, as well as providing facilitation between stakeholder groups on complex issues. Prior to founding Phoenix Strategic Solutions, John worked for the American Forest & Paper Association from 1988 until June 2006. As Vice President of Forestry and Wood Products he managed domestic and international forestry efforts. John is known for providing the staff leadership to create the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) program. Under John’s leadership, the SFI program became one of the largest internationally recognized sustainable forest management standards. John is also a past President of the Society of American Foresters and a graduate of Humboldt State University.

This conference also includes discussions on emerging feedstocks, educating consumers, starting new bio-based chemical endeavors, finding investors, and lessons from the bio-based chemicals industry abroad.
