LG Optimus 3D v HTC Sensation Smartphone Comparison

L

The LG Optimus 3D is billed as the first 3D phone. That begs the question among many of us: what, exactly, is a 3D phone?

Well, for the ‘techy bit’: The dual 5MP lens of the Optimus 3D enables you to capture and record your own 3D video and images. This content can then be viewed on the 4.3-inch WVGA display without the use of the comedy cinema style 3D glasses in both 2D (up to 1080p) and 3D (up to 720p). Captured content can be uploaded to a dedicated YouTube channel for 3D footage, or shared on a 3D TV via the HDMI port of the Optimus 3D.

All that sounds pretty impressive, and the LG Optimus 3D sounds like a seriously cool smartphone. But how does it compare with another big mover and shaker in the smartphone market, the HTC Sensation?

As you would expect, the LG Optimus 3D is very powerful indeed. Data transfer is very speedy indeed: the combination of the dual-core processor and dual-core memory allows for faster data transfer on the LG Optimus 3D. This means users can browse the internet, play online or offline games and switch between open programs at a higher frame rate, which gives a real injection into the device’s overall performance.

The LG Optimus comes with 8GB of internal memory – ample space to store all those 3D videos. A 1500mAH battery provides the power and DLNA connectivity provides another way to share media. There’s also the usual sharing options – WiFi, Bluetooth & 3G connectivity – and a 3.5mm connection for private listening.

3D capability aside, the HTC Sensation stands up very well for itself.

The HTC Sensation features the popular Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, topped off with  the new version of HTC’s custom Android skin, HTC Sense 3.0. HTC Sense is packed with a great range of features, including in-car navigation assistance, enhanced social media functions, and the ability to hush an incoming call with the ‘Flip To Silence’ feature.

HTC have branded this phone the multimedia superphone, and it supports their new movies-on-demand service, greatly enjoyable on the high quality 4.3 inch screen. And in terms of media sharing, there are plenty of options; DLNA capability offers the ability to wirelessly stream photos and videos to a compatible TV, and there is also HDMI export capability.

So it’s really up to you what you want your smartphone to do. If you’re wowed by the boundless possibilities of 3D then the LG Optimus 3D is the phone for you. But if it’s watching movies on the go that really appeals, try the HTC sensation.
