Local Atlanta Gallery to teach lost art of pinhole photography

L

Pinhole photography, in the traditional manner, is an image making method that does not rely on lenses, batteries, or any form of technology. Sight+Sound Gallery is offering a one-day course, which will provide an exclusive opportunity to learn photography in its most basic form using the Holga 120 WPC pinhole film-based camera. No previous photographic knowledge required.

Participation in this hands-on, full day workshop is limited to 16 students (age 14+). The first class will take place Saturday, December 1, 2012, from 8:00am-6:00pm at Sight+Sound Gallery, 659 Auburn Ave. #G4 Atlanta, Georgia 30312. The $225 per person class fee will include the use of a Holga 120 WPC camera, mini tripod, and cable release, as well as 1 roll of film (8 exposures), film development, and a contact sheet per student pair. The workshop culminates in a photo competition, where the winning student?s work will be exhibited at a local venue, on the Sight+Sound website, and on the Sight+Sound Facebook page.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

The workshop format will consist of lecture, hands-on activities, and group discussion. At the end of the course, students will have a contact sheet of their own photographs. Students will be encouraged to be as expressive and creative as they see fit to document their impressions of their surroundings through the pinhole photography method.

A few months following the workshop, the gallery will host a photo competition and will coordinate the exhibition of the winning student?s work at a local venue. Judges will be Noted National Photographer Sheila Pree Bright, and Gallery Founder Charles Berry. The winning photo will be posted on the Sight+Sound website as well as on the Sight+Sound Facebook page.
