Online apparel start-up Looptworks uses ground-breaking “upcycling” process to create limited-edition clothing and accessories from excess materials. The socially responsible, eco-friendly apparel is now available for purchase at their online apparel shop, Looptworks.com.

Portland, OR, September 10, 2009 — Every year, more than 20 million tons of useful textiles go to waste in the U.S. alone. Every week, the average textile factory produces 60,000 pounds of useful waste. Every day, piles of excess fabric in landfills grow higher.

Until today: September 9, 2009. Today is the day an online apparel start-up is taking steps to reverse this wasteful trend. Today is the launch of Looptworks.com. ( http://www.looptworks.com )

“Looptworks is open for business, turning waste into want. We’re hoping that in the process of selling our hip and urban clothing for women and men, we can start to change the way people think about buying,” says Scott Hamlin, founding partner of Looptworks.

Looptworks repurposes abandoned materials to create meaningful, long-lasting and limited-edition clothing and accessories. Using no new materials, everything in the Looptworks line is uniquely created from excess.

The newly launched website welcomes visitors to see the world through a new lens, using two circles to showcase fresh videos on its homepage, to both educate and inspire. Clicking in to the men’s and women’s product categories provides the shopper an overview of the collections. There are eight men’s products and nine for women, with additional styles being added on a regular basis. ( http://www.looptworks.com/womens-collection.html )

The product detail pages feature engaging videos of the products in action on models. Shoppers can also rollover the static product images to magnify and discover the unexpected, signature Looptworks details, like craftily-designed pockets, and whimsical, unmatched buttons and snaps. Even the logo is attached to a loop that has the number of the garment etched in by hand. ( http://www.looptworks.com/pasar-womens-jacket.html )

“Come check out our website, our eco-friendly apparel, and most importantly the story of how our clothing is created,” adds Hamlin. “You’ll see the difference in our approach, and how we’re trying to make a difference.”
