Making Sure That Wooden Shutters Last

28th July 2011 – A lot of house owners and interior decorators are choosing window shutters for their houses these days – the main reason being that they provide a different level of ventilation and weather control as compared to other Wooden Shutters.
However, the problem with wood is that it is difficult to make it last which is why the following points should be considered when going for these shutters.
The first thing which the user should do is to make sure that the right type of wood is chosen. There are a number of factors which alter the wood choices and the prime amongst them are cost and availability. For restoring shutters, it is important that the new material matches the older one’s species otherwise it would look disjointed. However, if one chooses to ignore this then it’s best to go for the wood option which provides better results and helps resisting the water and bugs.
The next thing which one can do is to provide shutter caps. These are meant to sit on top of the shutters just like a normal cap does on our head. Both of them are meant to do the same thing: make sure that the rain is kept out. Chances are that the water will pool and bead on top of the shitters after it has rained. This gives it the chance to soak in the wood and then later cause trouble. This can be prevented by going for a shutter cap on top of the shutters. These come in a range of materials which include copper, steel, vinyl but the best one according to the users is a copper cap.
The last thing that the user can do is to stain or paint the Wooden Shutters so that they are provided a better protection from the sun and water. A lot of people like showing off the grains on their wood with good Stains but the better option to go with paint when it comes to the external shutters. This is because this paint helps in keeping the sunlight out which is the prime reason for heat and UV radiation.
