Michel Roux Jr and London Antique Dealers to Host Exclusive ‘Dining Off Antiques’ Charity Evening

M

Famed Le Gavroche Chef, Michel Roux Jr, has joined forces with some of the Capital’s finest antique dealers to bring Londoners a once in a lifetime opportunity to dine with him, in what can only be described as the most expensively decorated dining room in the country.

London, UK, February 28, 2011 — On Wednesday 30 March, the celebrated chef and Simon Phillips, owner of Ronald Phillips antiques in Mayfair (26 Bruton Street, London W1), will host an exclusive dinner for only twenty guests at his newly opened venture, Roux at The Landau.

The dinner, which is being hosted in aid of the Evening Standard’s Dispossessed Fund, will see guests transported to another era when The Postillion, the restaurant’s private dining room, is transformed with an array of priceless antiques with an estimated value of more than £2 million.

Everything from cutlery to tables will be replaced with exquisite antique equivalents from the 18th and 19th centuries, meaning diners will literally be eating off antiques. Pieces on show will include a pair of Regency Ormolu mounted mahogany side cabinets, which were made circa 1810 for Windsor Castle and a Regency Rosewood Brass inlaid centre table, made in 1820. Beautiful antique glassware will be supplied by dealer Andrew Lineham and all objects will be available to buy.

Roux at The Landau is located in the luxurious Langham Hotel in London’s West End. With its rich history – the hotel first opened its doors in 1865 – and grand proportions, the restaurant is the perfect setting for this truly unique dining experience.

Michel and Chef de Cuisine at The Landau, Chris King, have devised a four course menu especially for the evening, exclusively using dishes from The Langham’s archives, which appeared on the hotel menus in the 1800’s. Each dish will be matched to a fine vintage from The Landau’s extensive wine cellar.

When asked about his involvement in the event, Michel Roux Jr said: “As someone who is passionate about history, I loved the idea from the word go. I’m always looking for ways to innovate and offer my customers something new and exciting.

“I knew immediately that it would make for a very special evening, as well as being a great way to raise money for a worthwhile cause – I’ll also be running for the Fund when I take on the London Marathon in April.”

Simon Phillips owner of Ronald Phillips said: “It will be wonderful to see these beautiful pieces of furniture displayed in all their glory – in fitting surroundings – and enjoyed by people hundreds of years after they were made, for the very same purpose.

“The combination of wonderful food and wine, personally selected by Michel Roux Jr, and served from stunningly beautiful antiques is sure to make for a dazzlingly evening; one which I’m positive our guests will not be disappointed by.”
Diners should arrive at 7pm (for 7.45pm), when Michel Roux Jr and Simon Phillips will give a welcome speech, introducing the food and wine and antiques that will be on show. Seats at the event cost £350 per head. You can reserve your place via The Landau reservations line (+44 (0)20 7965 0165) or email [email protected].

All profits made from the event will be donated to the Evening Standard’s Dispossessed Fund http://dispossessedfund.communityfoundations.org.uk.
