Philosophy as a compulsory subject in school curriculum would promote independent thinking

Kochi, May 27, 2011: Kerala High Court Judge Hon’ble Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan today released the book “Are suicide terrorists culpable – An outlook beyond law” written by K C Eldho by giving a copy to Advocate S. Sreekumar on May 27 at Kerala High court. Former Vice Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady Dr. K S Radhakrishnan introduced the book. The book was published by Kerala Law Journal (KLJ), available at KLJ outlets. The book price is Rs. 495 /-

“Are suicide terrorists culpable – An outlook beyond law” by K C Eldho is candidly brought to fore the plight of innocents getting caught in the web of suicide terrorism. The author challenges the view of every suicide terrorist being stereo typed as religious fanatics and brought to fore the need for society to look at the humane aspect more realistically.

“No one is born criminal – all limbs of civil society have to remember this. Eldho’s work is an eye opener,” said Hon’ble Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan.

The book is structured into three sections: the first deals with the approach to suicide terrorism. The author has tried to address the phenomenon of well educated people from all walks of life, with apparently no history of any criminal activity being involved in suicide terrorism. The people who part took in the 9/11 attack on WTC have been covered extensively. Religious indoctrination and brain washing are seen to be the main reasons for the participation of these people.

While introducing the book Dr. K S Radhakrishnan said that, “It is an innovative attempt to expose a moral dilemma in inflicting punishment on an ignorant who is not aware of the moral and ethical implications of his actions due to reasons explicable and inexplicable.”

“In the book I argue that culpability of an action which arises out of ignorance would be punishable only if the ignorance itself is culpable. I have supported my arguments based on the Rosens theory of Parity thesis. This theory to cover all aspects including those of suicide terrorism. There are many innocents who are indoctrinated, brainwashed or manipulated in to part taking in suicide terrorism. In many such cases, the suicide terrorists are acting out of ignorance. In such cases I think, the culpability of these individuals also needs to be looked at with the same prism as for others, irrespective of the amount of damage that may have been caused,” said K C Eldho.
