Par and Poker Event Encourages Public to Play in Tournament Benefiting Local Charities
Tampa, FL, January 15, 2009 — Event organizers for the Par and Poker Celebrity Challenge for Charity are officially opening up golf and poker registration to the general public. The cost to play in the tournament on Thursday, January 29, 2009 is $1500 per person for golf and $540 per person for poker, or $2000 for both. As an additional incentive, golfers registered by Friday, January 16 will receive $500 off. Players can register by calling 480.736.2464.
“This event is different from other celebrity events because it’s free to attend and open to the public,†said Super Bowl Veteran and Celebrity Host Seth Joyner. “Here is a ‘Once in a Lifetime’ chance to fulfill that dream of playing with NFL, NBA, MLB and Hall of Fame athletes and Hollywood stars while fulfilling the dreams of others by helping local non-profits.â€
The Joyner-Walker Foundation is putting the finishing touches on the event to make sure everything is up to par, and the discounted rate is the Foundation’s call to action in order to fill every spot in the tournament. The golf at TPC Tampa Bay is PGA quality, the poker is set to be the largest celebrity tournament in Tampa Bay history and now the general public is getting involved more than ever.
“It’s disheartening to see other events canceling due to the current economy, but we still anticipate a huge turnout for Par and Poker, because so many aspects of our event involve the Tampa community,†said Co-Founder Leonard Walker.
Proceeds from the tournament directly benefit two local charities in addition to the Joyner-Walker Foundation. Monies raised for the Kid’s Charity of Tampa Bay will help fund a project to house abused and abandoned children in Tampa. Proceeds will also help the Judeo Christian Health Clinic in providing health care to indigent persons in the Tampa Bay community.

The Joyner-Walker Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing life skill programs to assist high school and college students in a way to prosper and be self-sufficient. The foundation’s main charity initiative, the Par and Poker Celebrity Challenge for Charity, consists of two parts: an 18-hole golf tournament and a No Limit Texas Hold’em poker tournament.
