Public Speaking Skills Can Help Your Child Compete for College Placement

P

Olney, Maryland-October 22, 2009-In this challenging college admissions climate, it’s important to give your child every advantage. Being able to communicate clearly and effectively is one way your child can stand out. “Your child can have the best grades and an impressive list of extracurricular activities, but if they can’t clearly communicate their strengths and assets, this will keep them from presenting in the best light”, according to Sylvia Henderson, CEO of Springboard Training, which provides speaking coaching and training services.

Springboard Training is pleased to announce its first annual Speak-A-Boo competition for Positive Teens. At this event for teens (ages 15-18 years) and their parents (and supportive fans), Sylvia will present a mini-seminar on public speaking skills, which will be applicable both to this event, and to any future public speaking opportunities. Teens will then be asked to speak on a positive topic for two to three minutes. They will receive feedback on their performance by Ms. Henderson, past president of the National Speaker’s Association-DC Area, and a well-regarded speaker and trainer. Teens will be given a recording of their performance, and gifts and prizes will be available.

According to Henderson, “Public speaking leaves many people feeling fearful and uncomfortable. I want to help teens gain more confidence with impromptu speaking skills. These will benefit them both in school, and in life.”

The event will be held at the Norbeck Country Club, 17200 Cashell Road, Rockville, Maryland from 12:30pm-3:30pm on October 31, 2009. The event is placed to take advantage of the break between morning and evening activities. Advanced registration is required. Learn more at http://www.speak-a-boo.com

“The event promises to be a safe and supportive place for teens to speak on positive topics, and have fun doing it.”
