Reno Online Retailer Hires Full-time SEM

R

BatteryEdge.com, a Reno, Nevada based online retailer that sells compatible replacement batteries for most laptop and notebook computers, has hired Search Engine Marketing (SEM) specialist Roger Scimé to head up its new Internet Marketing Division.

Scimé will spearhead the company’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts in addition to developing off-site marketing channels. He brings more than a decade of Internet Marketing experience to the position, as well as a Master’s degree in Journalism from UNR’s Reynolds School of Journalism.

Committing to SEO
“Most companies prefer to outsource their SEO,” says Bob Willmes, CEO and founder of BatteryEdge.com, “but I decided to make the commitment to finding a highly qualified, local individual who possesses the vision, experience, and knowledge necessary to make this thing work and bring that person in as a full-time employee.

“That’s how critical the Internet is to our business.”

Internet Marketing Integration
Willmes explains that the higher a company ranks on the major search engines–Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft’s bing, for example–the more likely it is that a customer will click on that company’s link, increasing the likelihood of making a sale. SEO is the process by which a website is configured to have a greater chance of achieving a high ranking. In recent years, though, other factors have come to affect search rankings: Social networks (FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter, among others), blogs, e-mail campaigns, and even press releases now play an ever-increasing role in website “findability”.

As Internet Marketing efforts become ever more important to businesses, so have the technical and creative skills behind those efforts become more and more in demand.

BatteryEdge.com spends nearly $1 Million annually on paid search sponsored Internet advertising (PPC) on Google and other Search Engines.

“Paid Search Engine advertising, especially on Google, has been extremely effective for our business. However, if we can achieve similar results organically [obtaining naturally high rankings through SEO] that could add significantly to our bottom line since those clicks are free,”

Company Background
BatteryEdge.com was founded by local entrepreneur Bob Willmes, who has helmed several successful online and offline businesses in his 25-year career.
“I think the time is right for this type of product, in this economy. Laptop computers are almost necessities these days, and running out of power at some critical juncture is one of users’ greatest fears,” Willmes says.

Big-Time Savings
“Most OEM, name-brand batteries can cost anywhere from $80 to more than $100. Our 100% guaranteed batteries have the same specifications as what came with the computer, and cost less – far less.”

To underscore his point, Willmes compares prices for a battery for one of Dell’s Inspiron models: “Ours costs $49.90, while theirs is “$149.00.” He continues, chuckling: “The OEM version is so expensive that Dell offers a monthly payment plan . . . and their battery isn’t even new, it’s refurbished.”

BatteryEdge.com offers compatible laptop batteries for Dell, HP, Apple, IBM, Compaq, Sony, Toshiba, and other popular laptop computer models.
