SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Ronald H. Henson at Phyco BioScience to speak at GTCbio’s Future of Bio-Based Chemicals: From Inception to Marketplace conference on September 13-14, 2010.

Ronald H. Henson will give a presentation on “Microalgae- Future Biochemical Feedstock?” at the Future of Bio-Based Chemicals: From Inception to Marketplace conference to be held this year in San Francisco, CA on September 13-14, 2010 by GTCbio. Microalgae are capable of converting carbon-dioxide into foods, feeds, fuels and chemical feedstock either heterotrophically or through direct photosynthesis using land and water unsuitable for other purposes. The DOD, DARPA, DOE and USDA are offering a variety of programs, such as the Biomass research and Development Initiative that are encouraging development and innovation. Power generating operations are also being designed to take advantage of algae for CO2 mitigation, and CAFOs and wastewater plants facing new environmental regulations regarding air and water are seriously looking at combining fermentation and energy technologies with algal production for additional revenue streams. Ronald H. Henson will address these topics and more at the Future of Bio-based Chemicals forum.

Ronald Henson has more than 30 years of hands-on experience in the business of microalgae mass production. He has been instrumental in expanding the use of Spirulina as food, feed and the subject of medical research. He was a key participant in development and operations of the first successful microalgae farm in the Americas. Ron is currently working on a number of issues related to algae, and algae products as well as for addressing various environmental issues.

This conference also includes discussions on emerging feedstocks, educating consumers, starting new bio-based chemical endeavors, finding investors, and lessons from the bio-based chemicals industry abroad. The speaking faculty will include industry professionals from the following companies: Genencor, Virgin Green Fund, Cargill, Alston & Bird LP, Huntsman Corp., Verenium, CIBC, Department of Toxic Substances Control, California Environmental Protection Agency and many more.

Attendees will gain valuable insights from seasoned professionals, government representatives, legal experts, and investors on topics such as how global standardization may affect the industry, ten year projections and synergy opportunities for the bio-sectors, key strategies for effectively structuring new bio-based chemical endeavors and partnerships, and how traditional refineries and biorefineries may successfully collaborate. This conference will provide the opportunity to hear from, and network with, the industry’s best in Bio-Based Chemicals and across the bio-sectors.
