Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 v HTC Sensation

S

Since its release at the start of the year, the Samsung Galaxy SII has proven itself a more than worthy successor to its older brother, the Samsung Galaxy S – in itself something of a legend in the Smartphone market.

There’s no arguing that this is an impressive piece of kit. But how does it compare with one of the brightest new smartphones on the market, the HTC Sensation?

The HTC Sensation, also known as the HTC Pyramid, is described as the successor to the massively popular HTC Desire HD, but in reality it is so much more than that.

The Sensation has double the power of its predecessor and has a funky new design.

So let’s see how the HTC Sensation and the Samsung Galaxy S2 compare. . .

First, let’s look at the operating system. Both the Galaxy SII and the HTC Sensation are Android smartphones and feature the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

The HTC Sensation comes with HTC’s custom Android skin, HTC Sense 3.0, which includes such excellent features as in-car navigation help and the Flip to Silence feature – which silences an incoming call in an instant and is very handy if you have forgotten to turn it off in a meeting or at the cinema.

The Samsung Galaxy also comes with a pretty nifty skin, the TouchWiz 4.0 user interface, which is again packed with great features, one of the best being four key hubs to make navigation a piece of cake.

Nowadays, media capability is one of the key points of any smartphone. HTC have christened the Sensation a ‘multimedia superphone’ – which sounds good, and the phone does not disappoint.

HTC are now offering a watch on demand movie service. The 4.3 inch qHD LCD screen is excellent for watching films on the go. It also has a decent video capability and an 8 megapixel camera – snaps and videos taken look good on the large screen.

The Samsung S2 has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus touch screen, which provides an excellent depth of colour and is again complemented by an 8 megapixel camera.

In terms of processor power, the Samsung Galaxy SII has a 1..2 GHZ Dual Exynos processor, while the HTC Sensation features a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. In layman’s terms that means these are both very powerful devices and will keep up admirably with your day to day demands.

All in all, there is precious little to choose between these two phones. The HTC has slightly less RAM, which may make some things run a little slower (768MB compared with 1MB on the Samsung) but both have up to 32GB storage capacity, meaning there is ample room for all your photos, tunes, music and more.
