SANYO provide a training course of scientific experiment, energy education and environmental conservation for elementary schools in Bangkok. The purpose is to enlighten 10-12 years old youth to be aware of global environmental change and to appreciate the value of natural resource.
Mr. Miike Kazuhisa, Assistant Director of SANYO (Thailand) Co., Ltd., revealed that SANYO Eco Education, an energy evolution study project for elementary students by SANYO’s specific program, is inspired by SANYO’s brand vision “Think GAIA” (GAIA is a term from Greek mythology referring to Earth as planet with organisms live and are closely related to each other). The project has begun successfully in April 2006 in Japan. After that, it has been widened to other countries with SANYO’s branch office: China, Singapore, France, Germany and Thailand relatively.
“The SANYO Eco Education Project shows how SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. cares about and is determined to conserve environment by researching non-pollution products. Meanwhile, we also instill values in children by this project, which has been very successful on its first demonstrations. Nowadays, there are 126 schools involved and more than 10,000 students accomplished.” Mr. Kazuhisa said.
SANYO (Thailand) Co., Ltd. adopt the mentioned project by translating its course from Japanese to Thai. For the first time in Thailand, the activity was performed at Thai-Japanese Association School in November 2008, which is cooperated with 15 volunteered employees. These volunteers have been directly trained by SANYO officer from Japan and are ready for passing on knowledge to 10-12 years old students.
“This course is 100 minutes approximated and uses the same content and exercises as other countries.” Mr. Kazuhisa added.
Mr. Narongsak Kanathum, Project Leader of SANYO Eco Education Project, said that the company had asked Bureau of Academic Affairs and Educational Standards to select schools, located in Bangkok, to participate the activity. Kasetsart University Laboratory School was the first place for 2009 campaign and the activity will be performed in 5 more schools until March. After that, SANYO will widen the project to other schools.
“Most content of activity handbook is about scientific experiments with methods to avoid causing pollution. For being more sensational, we allow students to have involvement with our experiments. Such as making human power battery or learning about human electricity; we will ask students to hold each other hand. With aluminium tray and stainless spoon as boosters and salinity as inductor, we can activate electric sound from a small amplifier when connected with our boosters.” Mr. Narongsak said.
Moreover, 3 R is a topic to be presented also. The 3 R is referred to reuse — to use an item more than once such as operating bottle return system, making cloth donation, selling old books or using rechargeable battery; reduce — to consume less in quantity such as using cotton bag instead of plastic bag; and recycle — to make an item to become usable again such as crafting a trinket from newspaper and aluminium can.
“The 2009 campaign was started at Kasetsart University Laboratory School. The activity took 5 days from January 27-28 and February 16-18, 2009. The number of participants was 300, all of them were studying in elementary 6th. The students paid a lot of attention to the activity, especially in questioning the experiments. We could see that the project has enlightened the youth to be aware of environmental problem in Thailand and around the world. The students realized that everyone had to solve the problem together for a better global environment.” Mr. Narongsak concluded.
