SEO Basic Rules – Google SEO Guidelines

S

Google outlines the best SEO practices that can optimize your website effectively and efficiently. Here are a few of them

Page titles- As users scan the search engine results page (SERP), they are already reading through the titles tags of the websites. To give you an idea on producing a good title, provide the name of your business or your website. Add small details on it like where you are located or the products and services you offer. Also note that each web page should (Google states “ideally”) contain a unique title.

Meta tags- Meta tags appear below the title tags and contain the description of the page. Google views these tags importantly because the description text might be used for matching search queries. ??????????????????Best practices include writing a description that will summarize the real information provided in the web page. Google also advises using unique descriptions per page.

URL Structure- Good or “friendly” URLs (Uniform Resource Locators) can help Google find better query results. A long URL with nonsense mix of characters has a big chance of staying at the bottom because it is “unfriendly”. Even users may think that the web page with a weird URL may not view it as informative or useful. Remember that when viewing results in Google, the URL is included as part of results. SEO???????????In the SERP, the query will appear bold in the title, description text and the URL. When writing your URL, choose words that will describe your site. Produce a simple directory structure that tells others about the contents of your web page.

Navigation- It works like a map that guides your visitors to find the information they want. Design a structure that will allow the visitors to jump to other contents using the home page or root as their starting point. Breadcrumbs (links that will allow users to go back previous page) are also good add-ons to make navigation easier. Google also advises against being dependent on drop-down menus for navigation. Use text instead to improve the accessibility of the site and to make it easier for the Googlebots to crawl the site.

###
Sitemap- A great idea to have a good site map on your website is to have it contain all the links to all the webpages in the site. ???????????????????Best practices include using XML sitemap file, checking for broken links and organizing pages for better access. Provide a 404 page that does something else other than telling the visitor that the webpage they are trying to access doesn’t exist. Include a link that will allow the visitor to navigate back to the home page or links to your webpages containing pieces of information that the visitor may refer to.

Content- Visitors find what they need through the website content. For that, your content should be unique, fresh, short and organized. Here’s where you should be thinking of effective and relevant keywords that will optimize your website.
