Small Businesses are Missing an Exponential Growth Opportunity, Says Business TV Network

YouTube’s massive growth, and increasingly sophisticated analytical and rights management tools, make online video a marketing godsend. But many small businesses are missing the boat, says a leading online business TV network.

England, UK, November 06, 2008 — In his recent address to major global TV content producers, YouTube cofounder Chad Hurley expressed great optimism about the new opportunities created by new online media technologies. New digital media offered unprecedented scope for producers to reach new audiences – but that was just the beginning, according to Hurley.

Marketing and business experts were also identifying huge opportunities in online video for research and analysis, for example using new analytical tools that show where online videos are being watched. Rights management tools had also become very sophisticated, so that content owners could have total confidence that they would retain control over their product.

All of this would lead to the continuing rapid expansion of online video content, said Hurley. “The proliferation of content will continue exponentially. And as methods for uploading, aggregating, personalising and distributing digital content develop, content owners will find new challenges and business opportunities.”

Mark Sinclair, Features Editor with online business TV network yourBusinessChannel welcomed Hurley’s speech. “It really backs up many of the themes discussed by the business experts on many of our business TV shows. Online video is booming, it’s the future of TV, and as a consequence there are massive marketing opportunities for small business.”

Just as there are massive revenue opportunities for the content specialists, there are fantastic marketing opportunities for small business in online video, according to Sinclair. “The pity is that at the moment many businesses are missing out. You don’t need to be a business expert to capitalise, but you will need expert business advice to do it right.”

“Many business experts are recommending that small businesses look at producing their own online video content. It’s a great way to engage with an audience. We’ve seen this ourselves with the audience for our business TV shows. The online video format is very different to broadcast technology – it’s not unidirectional, so viewers can monitor many channels at once, and chose when they watch content. Plus the format makes it easy for businesspeople to give feedback, for example on areas in which they need further expert business advice,” says Sinclair.
