Clinton,IL,December 12,2007—Stan and Helen Stites, married since June 1946, announce their three published books on www.StanandHelenStites.com. Stan Stites, with two of the titles in print, specializes in fictional works of Christian fantasy and humor for all ages. Helen Stites, with one title, is a non-fiction writer and researcher of historical facts regarding Abraham Lincoln’s activities in her Illinois home county of DeWitt.

The website features the couple’s Charleston, IL, wedding photo and acts as a welcome and provides a link to an individualized blogger.com page for each author: StanleyJStites.blogspot.com and LincolninDeWittCounty.blogspot.com

Finding Lincoln in DeWitt County is Helen Stites’ first book-length work. Childhood visits to the nearby Lincoln family farm near Charleston stimulated her interest in Abe Lincoln and his history. In 1953, Helen Stites moved 80 miles northwest with her husband and two daughters to the Central Illinois town of Clinton. By 1959, she and Stan had added two more daughers to their family. In Clinton Mrs. Stites continued her investigations into Lincoln’s life and activities. She uncovered a wealth of history in DeWitt County, a regular destination for the 16th US President-to-be from 1839 to 1859.

Helen Stites says, “Finding Lincoln in DeWitt County began as a hobby. I dug through microfilms of early newspapers and files of newspaper clippings looking for special nuggets of information.”

Mrs. Stites’ gleanings from local and state resources extended into a fifteen year project. Her research also resulted in a personal collection of over sixty Lincoln books as she focused on Lincoln’s years as an attorney with the Eighth Judicial Circuit and interaction with local citizens. Helen Stites’ original book contains humorous incidents, previously unknown Lincoln facts, and reports on his several local public appearance and speeches. Helen Stites is listed in the Illinois Authors Directory and is experiencing a widening circle of publicity for her work. Finding Lincoln in DeWitt County, published by Authorhouse, is available directly through the publisher as well as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other online sources.

Stan Stites reports, “Besides writing my two books, The Continuum of Know and Runtabaga – A Christmas Story for Grown-Ups, I enjoyed writing, directing and producing two three-act comedies plus a number of one-act plays for our local theatrical group.”

Literary credits for Stan Stites, prior to these books, have been limited to short fictional stories. Editorials and news stories and a regular column entitled “It Occurred to Me” added to his writing experience. The author has also worked on screenplay versions of his two published books.

During his many years in Clinton, IL, Stan Stites served as editor and co-publisher of a weekly newspaper. A practicing podiatrist in Central Illinois for 16 years, Dr. Stites was elected and served as mayor of Clinton for eight years. Over the past 20 years, Stan Stites has been buying and selling out-of-print and rare books and maps — marketing through eBay and various mall outlets. Stan Stites two recent books are produced and distributed by Trafford Publishing and all major online booksellers.
