SUNDAY TIMES NAMES PETERBOROUGH’S COLOPLAST AS ONE OF

S

Peterborough-based Coloplast – a leading manufacturer and supplier of healthcare devices – has been named by the Sunday Times as one of the top 100 companies to work for in the UK.

The company was presented with the prestigious Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For 2010 award at a glittering ceremony in London attended by other winners including multi-national companies and public sector organisations. Ten staff from various areas of the business attended the event, staying overnight in a London hotel after the Oscar-style awards presentation dinner.

The Sunday Times surveyed more than 1,000 organisations and obtained opinions of their employers from more than 276,000 employees.

Coloplast staff were asked to give their views on eight key areas of their relationship with the company. These included such things as leadership (how employees feel about the head of the organisation, senior managers, and the organisation’s values and principles), wellbeing (how employees feel about stress, pressure at work, and work-life balance) and ‘giving something back’ (the extent to which employees feel the company has a positive impact on society).

Other factors looked at in the survey included how employees get on with their line managers, training and development opportunities for staff, and – of course – pay and other employment benefits.

The company itself also had to supply data about such things as its personnel policies and procedures.

Taken together, the staff responses and the company data placed Coloplast in the ‘Top 100’ companies in the UK.

Human resources director Tess O’Kane said: “We have always believed that Coloplast is a fantastic company to work for, with strong values and a commitment to excellent customer care. Having that confirmed by our own staff in an independent survey that compared us with more than 1,000 other organisations has given us a tremendous boost.

“There can be no better award than one that is given as a result of staff feedback and we are delighted that the company was ranked so highly.

“Being recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 companies helps to set us apart from other employers and will help us to attract and retain the best people.”

Sam Sedwill, head of resourcing & development at the company, said: “Coloplast continues to grow and develop and we want to recruit and work with people who can grow and develop with us. Anyone interested in current or future vacancies at Coloplast can get information from the website at www.jobsatcoloplast.com.”

Due to its continued expansion Coloplast had to relocate its UK head office in 2008 to modern new premises at Nene Hall on Peterborough Business Park. The new offices are three times larger than its previous premises to accommodate its growing staff, now numbering around 175 in the Peterborough offices, 75 at the distribution centre in nearby Orton Southgate and a further 80-plus working in various locations around the country.
