The employee drive will raise funds and collect items for at risk youth during the holidays, then volunteer to deliver gifts.

San Francisco, CA, November 30, 2011 — Takeda San Francisco employees are working to bring holiday cheer to those in need. San Francisco’s global center for excellence in biologics is doing an employee drive to support First Place for Youth’s annual Holiday Party on December 15, and adopting two families from La Casa de las Madres. First Place for Youth, a Bay Area-based non-profit organization, provides youth with essential support and services to transition from foster care to independent living. La Casa de las Madres responds to calls for help from domestic violence victims, and gives them tools to transform their lives.

The Takeda Team will collect gift cards and household needs for the youth who are enrolled in First Place for Youth’s My First Place Program. The youth live in one- and two-bedroom apartments, and receive support with move-in costs, rent, food, essential furnishing, house wares, health and mental health needs, self-reliance planning, and access to employment and education services.

Takeda employees will then spend time volunteering at the First Place for Youth holiday party, distributing these gifts. The efforts are part of Takeda’s ongoing commitment to society through corporate social responsibility activities.

Additionally, the Takeda team will be adopting two families from La Casa de las Madres, to support domestic violence survivors – uprooted and struggling to build self-sufficient, thriving lives. La Casa’s Adopt A Family program assists families during the holiday season, who may be transitioning out of a shelter into their own housing or who are struggling to make ends meet while building a stable violence free life.

“Helping to improve our community is an important part of the Takeda San Francisco culture. During this holiday season we are happy to be partnering with these two high-impact organizations focused on improving the lives of children and their families.” said Mary Haak-Frendscho, company CSO.

First Place for Youth is a Bay Area-based nonprofit organization founded in 1998 to help youth build the skills they need to make the difficult transition from foster care to self-sufficiency and responsible adulthood. Through their outreach, they seek to defy negative statistics among former foster youth by providing an innovative mix of permanent housing with graduated subsidy, employment training and job development, education assessment and support, and transformative emotional support and community building. Through these resources youth gain housing stability, economic stability, educational attainment, improved health, and community connection.

La Casa de las Madres mission is to respond to calls for help from domestic violence victims, of all ages, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They give survivors the tools to transform their lives, seeking to prevent future violence by educating the community and by redefining public perceptions about domestic violence. La Casa de las Madres acts boldly to create a community where violence against women and children is not tolerated.
