Talula “Lisa” Martin and Lynita Mitchell-Blackwell Appointed to Douglas County Board of Elections & Registration

December 26, 2014 Douglasville, GA.  On November 17, 2014, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved the appointments to the Board of Elections and Registration (BOER).  Two of the recommendations submitted by Democratic Party Chair David M. Good were Talula “Lisa”  Martin and Lynita Mitchell-Blackwell.  Martin’s term is two years and will begin effective January 1, 2015; Mitchell-Blackwell’s term is four years and will also begin January 1.

Chair Good stated, “I am glad to see a more balanced Board of Elections and Registration. The voters of this county deserved a more balanced board and that is what it is moving towards. I know the two people we have chosen will represent the voter’s of Douglas County well.”  Outgoing BOER member, Ingrid Landis-Davis, stated that she is extremely pleased with the caliber and professionalism of the incoming Board members approved by the Democratic Party and the BOC.  “This will be excellent for the people and candidates of Douglas County,” according to Mrs. Landis-Davis.

New board members Martin and Mitchell-Blackwell are looking forward to working on the BOER.  Martin stated, “I look forward to serving on the BOER. I plan to do my utmost to insure that the duties and responsibilities of the Board are carried out. The citizens of Douglas County deserve the best efforts of a dedicated Board.”  Mitchell-Blackwell agreed. “I am very excited to serve the citizens of Douglas County, and will work hard to execute my duties to the best of my ability.”

According to its webpage on the Douglas County website, the Board of Elections and Registration is “responsible for conducting all elections in such a manner as to guarantee the secrecy of the ballot, and perform other duties as may be prescribed by law. These duties and responsibilities include… receiving and determining the sufficiency of nomination petitions of candidates filing notice of their candidacy; appointing and conducting training for poll managers and poll workers; receiving the returns from all elections, computing, certifying and publicly announcing the results; preparing an annual budget and making and issuing such rules, regulations and instructions consistent with law as deemed necessary for the guidance of poll officers, custodians and electors in primaries and elections.”

All members of the BOER will be sworn in by Superior Court Judge Bill Hamrick on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 8:30 am in the Judges Courtroom at the Douglas County Courthouse 8700 Hospital Drive Douglasville, GA 30134.
