Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children Renovates Surgical Rooms

T

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children recently announced the opening of the hospital’s fourth surgical room, as well as complete renovation of three others. Built in the late 1970’s, the fourth surgical room had been inadequate in size, thus limiting the type of surgeries that could be performed in the room.

Through the goodwill of hospital friends John L. Hancock and Mary Kathryne “Kaki” Hancock, the fourth operating room was recently renovated into a new, more spacious suite that allows more room for state-of-the-art medical equipment incorporating monitors, lights and endoscopic equipment, as well as audiovisual equipment for teaching purposes. The suite increases capacity for the growing number of complex orthopedic surgeries, including spinal implant surgeries for scoliosis and other spinal deformities, performed at the hospital each year.

“We are very grateful for their generosity,” said Dr. Tony Herring, M.D., TSRHC’s chief of staff. “The last few months have been the busiest surgical period in the hospital’s history. The added flexibility we have from our improved surgical spaces has allowed complex procedures to be done efficiently and expertly.”
