BTP Group?s extensive renovation and extension of The Kensington Close Hotel & Spa is entering into the final stages of completion. Originally built in 1960, it was 50 years later that BTP began construction of a new storey and wings. The altercations and extension created an additional 172 bedrooms, and 66 refurbished rooms.

Now near competition, the hotel features new conference and banqueting suites, restaurants and a bar. The ground floor refurbishment has produced a new layout, and the additional floor led to the creation of a significant increase in the number of new guest rooms. The long awaited upgrade has improved efficiency in the hotel, reducing the running costs and now provides guests with excellent utilities and services that were not previously available.

BTP?s quantity surveyor and Employers Agent on this project, Gus Jones, had to accommodate several unique factors during the build:

“One of our biggest challenges and successes was to ensure that the hotel remained open throughout the works, so our specialist experience in this sector was invaluable. Post contract variations resulted in the project doubling in size and complexity so we had to be nimble to ensure it all ran smoothly. As the ground floor front and back of house changed completely, the success of the project relied on a good working relationship and clear communication with Vascroft, the main contractors. The BTP project team liaised directly with the hotel management, ensured that contracts were executed correctly and the project variations were specified and accommodated in a controlled and professional way. The end result is a triumph and is now busy with Olympic, leisure and business guests.”

Based in Central London, BTP was established in the 1970?s by Barrie Tankel. The company is now owned and run by four Directors  who are supported by an experienced team of quantity surveyors , offering construction cost consultancy and project management expertise.
