Torcello and its heritage live again in a new exhibition at the Museo Diocesano di Venezia

Another success for the tourist website venetoinside.com , a part of Insidecom (Gruppo Infracom), chosen as sole online promoter of the exhibition celebrating 1000 years of the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta, the archetypical monument of Christianity in the lagoon.

The organisers of this important cultural event (promoted by the Curia Patriarcale di Venezia, the Regione del Veneto, Fondazione di Venezia and Minister for Culture) have given venetoinside.com exclusive rights for online ticket sales. This offers the only alternative to queueing at the door, and also guarantees the certainty of pre-booking a visit. The online procedure is simple and instant: simply go to the home page, select the page dedicated to the exhibition (bottom left), and follow the instructions.

From 29 August until 10 January 2010, Torcello and its heritage live again at the Museo Diocesano di Venezia, where an exhibition takes place recreating the island’s cultural, religious artistic and commercial roles connecting the lagoon city with the upper Adriatic and Near East. This function quickly led to a new and complex form of artistic expression which soon expanded to Venice itself.
An exhibition unlike any other, Torcello, The Millenium traces the origins of Venice, revealing its profound debt to this island.

The Millennium, Torcello is a journey back in time, a quest to discover a lost civilisation which contributed enormously to the religion, art, commerce and fame of Venice. It was here at Torcello that the “Venetian-Byzantian” style arose, which became one of the most widely-known faces of the lagoon city.

The exhibition tells this story through 100 masterpieces of that art which, originating in Byzantium, found in the lagoon the ideal environment in which to take root and grow, gradually giving way to new forms and symbols destined for widespread and hugely successful diffusion.

Torcello, The Millenium is a voyage through history and art, immersed in the “religious silence” of an epoch, now brought back to light, which contributed enormously to the lagoon: the immortality of Venice begins here.
