Turkey Wind Installation Capacity to touch 1GW by 2009

T

A Senior Research Analyst at RNCOS says that banks’ reluctance to give loans for new projects will not have much impact on the growth of the European wind energy sector. The industry will compensate with high investments from institutional investors, power companies with strong balance sheets and infrastructure funds.

Analyzing all these facts, RNCOS, in its new research report “Wind Power: Opportunities in Emerging Markets”, says that the wind power installation in Turkey is expected to surge to slightly less than 1 GW by the end of 2009.

Turkey imports nearly 65% of primary energy to meet its requirements as it has very limited indigenous energy resources. Although the country has abundance of renewable energy resources, it is one of the largest importers of primary energy.

Moreover, the energy demand in Turkey has significantly risen over the past few years due to robust economic growth. This trend is likely to continue in coming years as its economy is heavily dependent on imported oil, natural gas and electricity.

The Turkish wind energy industry is expected to grow at a fast pace in the backdrop of rising energy demand in the country. In addition, the industry has been strengthened by the ongoing economic downturn because it is not exposed to fluctuating fuel and carbon prices.

The report also says that Turkey has around 781,000 Sq. Km tracts of land that technically represent strong wind power generation potential. Besides, the country is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea in the south, Black Sea in the north and the Marmara and the Aegean Sea in the west, with long coastline of 8500 Km. Turkey has the huge potential to generate 166 TWh of electricity per year from wind resources and represents the highest share in technical wind energy potential in Europe.

“Wind Power: Opportunities in Emerging Markets” contains an exhaustive information on power industry in emerging economies across the world. It analyzes the potential of these markets by evaluating their performance, factors supporting the industry and power generation sources.

The research report also provides forecast for wind power installed capacity by province and wind power in renewable energy installed capacity.
