Waterbury ColorTyme remembers recent shooting victim

WATERBURY, Conn. – Jan. 28, 2010 – ColorTyme’s Steve Dwyer never met John Frazier, but the teen’s tragic death prompted the local rent-to-own franchise owner to get involved. Taking to heart the company’s motto, “People Helping People”, Dwyer is collecting donations at ColorTyme in Frazier’s name and will match every dollar that the store raises through Feb. 6.

“From what I’ve read, John was a great student and devoted his time to volunteer. It’s a tragedy to lose a good kid to an act of senseless violence,” said Dwyer. “My thoughts are with his family, and I want to do anything I can to help.”

Frazier was fatally shot in front of his home around 10 p.m. Jan. 18, the night of his 17th birthday. Upon learning that Frazier’s family was financially unable to provide a funeral, Dwyer made a $500 donation in a community fundraiser to help pay for expenses.

“I think the fundraiser helped give John’s family a sense of comfort and support,” said Dwyer. “They talked about using some of the money for outdoor cameras to help protect others so that this doesn’t happen again.”

Money raised in Dwyer’s store will be put into a scholarship fund in Frazier’s name at Porter and Chester Institute. To support this cause, please visit ColorTyme located at 67 Thomaston Ave.
