Who is best for Wireless Broadband? – Broadband Comparison.

W

October 2008 – The increasing popularity of broadband means that competition is extremely tough. All the providers are vying for our custom and this ensures great offers and good parity of service. One of the latest offers is a wireless broadband package. This should not be confused with mobile broadband; it is merely a broadband package that includes a free wireless router.

If you compare broadband packages many of the features are roughly equivalent and the monthly prices are not too different, but each provider tries to add in something to differentiate their service to the competitions and depending on your requirements may win you over. So who to choose for wireless broadband ?

A website like Broadbandchoices.co.uk allows you to compare the following broadband providers, and more:

Plusnet broadband winner of 2008 best consumer ISP from broadband choices offer three packages depending on usage requirements and a fourth aimed at the gaming market, this option prioritises traffic and provides low latency to improve the online gaming experience. They offer a free wireless router on all but their most budget package. The contract is available as a one month rolling contract, though the wireless router is not free. They also offer broadband phone (VOIP) minutes to help cut down the phone bill.

BT Home Broadband offer their new home hub which has a long range and comes with a dedicated socket for a VOIP phone. As a well established and trusted name BT offers three standard options plus the Anywhere tariff which includes a choice of smartphones to improve service out of doors. Also, all the packages include an allowance of wifi access at BT hotspots.

O2 offers three packages starting from £12.50 (£7.50 if you are an existing O2 mobile customer). Again, the wireless router is free. All three packages have an unlimited download though the connection speeds are up to 8, 16 and 20Mbps respectively. Unfortunately, all O2’s packages are significantly more expensive if you are out of their broadband area.

Be has 3 packages, Be Value, Be Unlimited and Be Pro. All three packages come with the Be Box Modem free of charge. Be were the first provider to offer up to 24Mbps download speed (on the pro package) and the service must be up to scratch as owner O2 uses the Be network for their own broadband service. The pricing is very competitive, starting at £14 per month (£8per month for the rest of 2008) but all three packages levy a £24 connection fee.
