AAPECS Eye Care Extends Eye Disease Care Program

Virginia Beach, Virginia – August 10, 2010 – AAPECS Eye Care has announced free second opinions for glaucoma, cataracts and other serious eye disease for the month of August. Additionally, the AAPECS indigent eye care program has been extended to cover at no charge those without money or insurance who need treatment for eye disease.

“There are many people in the Hampton Roads community with eye disease that have fallen on hard times and cannot afford to see a professional,” said Dr. Ronald Frenkel, founder of AAPECS Eye Care. “Declining vision is a serious matter. We want to help those we can, and ask people to refer their friends and family in the area to our office so that we can help.”

The AAPECS Eye Care consultant is an ophthalmologist who specializes in complex eye disease, treatment for cataracts and glaucoma, as well as laser vision correction. AAPECS does not sell or give prescriptions for eyeglasses, but helps people improve their vision in other ways.

“For years, we have worked with local organizations, including Lions Club International and regional medical clinics, to identify those who need assistance.” said Frenkel. “We have helped hundreds of walk-in patients who have problems with cataracts in Virginia Beach and the surrounding area of Hampton Roads. We want people to know we are here and we want to give back to the community.”

Approximately 4 million Americans suffer from glaucoma. About 2 million are undiagnosed. When left untreated, glaucoma can cause blindness. There is no cure for it. Previous vision loss cannot be restored, although treatment is available to halt further progression in the eye once it is discovered in the patient.
