The Metropolitan Correctional Center often referred to as the MCC, is an administrative facility housing male and female inmates. MCC San Diego is located in downtown San Diego, adjacent to the Federal courthouse.
Prior to January 1, 2009 service of process on inmates located within the Metropolitan Correctional Center was accomplished by the San Diego Sheriffs Department. However, due to budgetary cuts the San Diego Sheriff no longer serves non enforcement paperwork as of January of this year.
As a result, service of process at the Metropolitan Correctional Center must now be performed by private process service companies. However, due to strict security regulations not all process servers are allowed into the MCC.
