Asiabizsetup Discusses Singapore Dependent Pass Details

Foreigners living and working in Singapore by holding an Employment [EP], Personalized Employment [PEP], and Entrepreneur pass [Entre] may apply for a Dependant pass for their spouses and each of their unmarried children aged below 21. Known as a family relocation visa, the Dependant pass’ status is dependent upon the principal pass’ status.

This means that as long as the EP, PEP or Entre pass holder is favorably employed in Singapore, the Dependant pass holder is eligible to live in and leave the city-state too at anytime without having to secure a visa each time. The Ministry of Manpower says that a Dependant pass has several features.

Among them is the eligibility to be employed. Raj Beng says Dependant pass holders can find and maintain work in Singapore as long as the employer is willing to apply for a Letter of Consent, which requires approval from authorities.

“The employer shall fill up the Letter of Consent [LOC] form and tender it to the Ministry of Manpower for evaluation and approval. The process shall take 2-to 3 weeks to determine the status.” Raj further exclaims that the LOC expires simultaneously with the Dependant pass. Thus, it requires renewal each time the DP is renewed.

Children below 21 years old and wish to study in Singapore can do so with a Dependant pass. Beng continues to elucidate on this, saying, “a dependent may enroll in K-12 schools, local or international, in Singapore without requiring a student visa. Nevertheless, should they wish to pursue higher learning from any higher educational institute in Singapore, a student visa is necessary.

Subject for several other conditions, the Dependant pass holder is eligible to apply for a permanent residence along with the principal labor pass holder. If MOM approves the application of EP, PEP, and Entre pass holder, the corresponding Dependant pass holder’s application is approved as well.

Both the application for the premier labor pass and DP may be submitted simultaneously or separately to MOM. Like the premier labor pass, the DP must be sponsored by the employer as well. “The result for DP application is given together with the result for the premier labor pass, in case they are submitted at the same time,” explains Raj.
