New Bend, Oregon event: A Midsummer Night’s Dream to premiere new Festival this August in Drake Park
Bend, OR, January 25, 2011 — Lay it Out Events is bringing the brilliance of William Shakespeare right here to Bend, Oregon for three performances of his most famous comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream on August 26 and 27, 2011. This widely loved tale of hearts gone awry, feuding faerie royalty, a love-inducing flower and a group of amateur actors is one of Shakespeare’s most performed plays. Never before seen in Bend, Lay It Out Events brings this classic to our favorite forest downtown: Drake Park. Additional information is available at www.shakespearebend.com
“We were chatting with Cate O’Hagan from Arts Central, lamenting the lack of an upscale, outdoor theatrical event in Bend,” said Sandy Henderson, Vice President of Lay It Out Events. “One thing led to another and Shakespeare in the Park came up. Luckily, the weekend that used to be home to the Cascade Festival of Music was still available, so we leapt on it. It seems a perfect synergy to produce one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies in the fabulous setting of Drake Park.” Arts Central will be the charitable beneficiary of the event.
Lay It Out Events will work with Portland’s Northwest Classic Theater Company, and Tifany LeGuyonne, Creative Director of Cat Call Productions to produce the event. Initially, there will be two evening performances and a matinee on Saturday. Cat Call Productions is also planning to debut a musical number from their October production of CHICAGO during the new Festival. There will also be an invitation-only cast and crew party for sponsors on opening night.
“Bend loves to support the arts, and we’re certainly supportive of events,” Henderson continued. “We hope this will be the inception of what will turn into a week-long Festival. We’ve already received support from Bendbroadband, Deschutes Brewery and The Riverhouse.”
Tickets go on sale at www.bendticket.com on March 1st.
