BBC Plans Raymond Blanc And Event Catering TV Spin Offs

Following on from the success of BBC2’s ‘The Restaurant’ two new spin off shows have been commissioned and will hit our screens next year.

Bristol, UK, September 24, 2009 — Step By Step will be essentially a Raymond Blanc cookery series and is expected to run along the new series of The Restaurant next autumn.

Plate Expectations will be a reality show based on the exploits of The Restaurant’s series two runners up James Knight-Pacheco and Alasdair Hooper as they try to get their own event catering business up and running.

The BBC has said “Always minutes away from disaster in the show, they have since been taken under Raymond’s wing, learning the trade at one of his top restaurants. Now it’s time to see whether they can tell their caviar from their calamari as they cater for a different event each week.”

Those in the event catering and outside catering business know just how hard it is be a success. Matt Timms runs Greengages, a group of specialist mobile caterers in the North West of England and says: “We are successful because we have a strong identity and local presence and we do our utmost to reduce our carbon footprint by using seasonal local produce and we operate from a retro Morgan Olson Van built for us in the US. Its a competitive industry and many start ups will fail in the first year.”

Plate Expectations is expected to be broadcast early next year and hope to be as popular as the show that spawned it. Janice Hadlow, controller of BBC2 said: “The Restaurant is a popular, well-established programme with lots of potential for expansion and I think these two new series will complement and enhance the brand.”
