The British Open Pub, or the “Bop” as regulars call it, has something for everyone. Whether it’s authentic English food like Bangers and Mash, traditional American comfort food, a massive selection of beers from around the world or simply a fun pub to watch the day’s biggest sporting events, the Bop is the spot for foodies and sports fans.

Scottsdale, AZ, February 18, 2011 — Tucked inside a southwestern-themed shopping center in Scottsdale is a decidedly un-southwestern establishment – a cozy pub where the conversation is always lively, the food is always tasty and the spirits are always flowing.

“We’re known for our food and for our friendly atmosphere,” said owner Gregg Troilo. “If you’re not talking to the person next to you within five minutes, you’ve got serious social issues.”

Troilo is so serious about the food that he and his chef regularly add “off the menu” specials, dishes that debut every Friday as part of the restaurant’s “Exploration of Flavor” and usually have the phone ringing off the hook.

The off-the-cuff entrees are a hit with whoever tries them and have become something of a cult favorite for regulars.

“People are always calling to find out what this week’s specials are,” Troilo said. “They know that we work hard to keep food combinations fresh and inspired. Food is fun here; it’s not just for sustenance. The portions are generous and if it isn’t right, we’ll fix it.”

The restaurant also offers a 20 percent discount to members of the military and it offers breakfast every Sunday morning. And, as the name suggests, there are large doses of food from across the pond, dishes that make countrymen feel at home and Americans feel as if they’ve been transported to the birthplace of their country.

“We have traditional British food and we have food that everybody likes,” Troilo said. “On the British side, we have things like fish and chips, which is our most popular dish; bangers and mash, cottage pie, beef and Guinness as well as chicken and mushroom pie.”

And the American leanings are just as tasty, Troilo said. Chicken Caesar salad, grilled cheese and the house special “Black and Blue” burger (topped with melted Stilton and Swiss cheese) are just some of the more than four dozen dishes available on the British Open Pub menu.

“The bottom line is, whether it’s British or American, it tastes good at the Bop,” Troilo said.

The British Open Pub is located at 1334 N. Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, Arizona, on the southwest corner of Scottsdale and McDowell roads.
