Morrisville, NC, July 15, 2010 — Over the past couple weeks, Peppers Market & Sandwich Shop, in the Grace Park shopping center, has been collecting custom sandwich designs from their customers, looking for the perfect combination of unique toppings and incredible taste to add to their menu in The Peppers Cup 2010: The Great Sandwich Showdown.
“We have a Create-your-Own Sandwich option on our menu, and everyday we see amazing combinations of meats and cheeses and topping, things we’d never thought of before. So when we decided to add a new menu item, we decided to turn to our customers for ideas!” said Peppers co-owner, Jess Fowler.
From June 29th to July 8th, Peppers collected over 150 entries from customers vying for the chance to have their ideal sandwich added to Peppers’ permanent menu (not to mention a prize pack worth $250.00). Using the contest entry form, customers designed and named their custom sandwiches, choosing from any of the ingredients Peppers offers, including their in-house roasted meats, and their custom made sauces.
After reviewing all the entries, the Peppers staff selected the Top 10 sandwiches based on taste and originality. Starting on July 13th, the Top 10 sandwiches will battle it out for 10 days on a special contest menu to determine the Top 3 bestsellers.
One example of the tasty creations you’ll see on the Top 10 menu is the “Tropical Pig-na Ciabatta” by Dave Andrey: “The heat of the tropics cooled with mango and a hint of citrus. A slightly spicy blackened (in-house roasted) Pork Loin with goat cheese, sautéed red peppers and fresh red onions are held in check with spinach, avacado and tomato. Top everything off with Peppers Mango Aoli & Citrus Sauces on a fresh baked ciabatta. The Top 3 best-selling sandwiches will go on to the Grand Finale on Saturday, July 31st, where a panel of judges will chose which sandwich will win the showdown.

Mayor Holcombe is excited to contribute, “This such a fun, unique and tasty way to support a locally-owned Morrisville restaurant and I’m really looking forward to participating.” She also pointed out that the contest is well timed, considering the upcoming launch of Morrisville’s Dine Local program that is being coordinated by the Morrisville Chamber of Commerce.
