Brooklyn, NY, February 26, 2009 — Brighton Ballet Theater’s original production of the beloved Russian folktale, “The Radish,” will premiere on Saturday, March 7 at 2 p.m. at Kingsborough Community College’s Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center. The performance will feature original choreography performed by BBT students, BBT company members, guest artists from the Ukrainian Dance Ensemble “Iskra” and live folk music by “Russian Carnival” and “The Golden Rooster”.

“We are focused on bringing the beauty and magic of the Russian culture and dance heritage directly to young school children and families in the community,” said Irina Roizin, Founder and Executive Director of Brighton Ballet Theater. “Our performances feature original dance pieces performed by children in the community for families in the community. This gives children a rare opportunity to learn about classical ballet, folk dance and music, and traditional costumes by watching their own peers perform – creating a joyous experience that both inspires and educates.”

In this charming tale, grandfather plants a radish seed but when the seed grows into a gigantic radish, he needs the help of his entire farm including the animals to pull the radish out. Children of all ages will be enthralled by the music and colorful costumes, which are designed and hand-made by BBT costume designers. The performance will run about 60 minutes. Tickets are $10.
