Brooklyn, New York – April7, 2011 – Fasting or a Christian fast is considered as an age old religious practice. A fast is regularly observed by Christians. These days, fasting is a popular weight management tool. Consequently, fasting is becoming popular to aid in weight loss and practice by many persons for non-religious reasons. Christian fasting is also a common occurrence during the season of Lent.

However, what most people do not know about fasting, there are a many health benefits which come with a properly executed fast. Although fasting is not for everyone, almost all healthy individuals are more than capable of fasting. However, fasting should not be attempted by the weak at heart. Most of all, fasting should not be done by a person who lacks the experience and knowledge of how to conduct a fast.

Fast is a period where in a person refuses to take solid foods with the goal in mind of detoxification and weight management. The periods of fasting can differ according to each person’s ability to resist the craving to eat. A short fast is not as beneficial as a long fast. A short fast last less than three days. A long fast takes longer than three days. A long fast duration can extends as long as forty days. It is a myth that long fast, it harmful. Depriving one’s body from nutrients will not result in any damage permanent or otherwise. Many persons hurt themselves while breaking a long fast and after the long fast rather than during the fast. Inform yourself about fasting before you do a fast.

There are two kinds of fasts that a person can try. The first type is known as water fasting. Water fasting is the strictest of the two types of fasts because a person cannot eat anything or consume any liquid either than water. This requires a lot of perseverance and will power because a person will essentially be deprived of all nutrients during this fast. However, the rewards of a water fast cannot be highlighted enough. People went through water fasting are expected to experience the benefits after just a short period of time.
On the other hand, juice fasting is less daunting that the former because the person who is fasting will be allowed to drink fresh juices. In a way, juice fasting does not deprive a person of all nutrients and energy that comes with it. Although a longer period of juice fasting is required to exact the benefits of fasting, juice fasting is recommended for people who, for health reasons, cannot go on a water fast.

There are a number of health benefits to fasting. However, the most immediate benefit is weight loss. The body requires food for energy. The molecules found in food is converted to energy which is they used up in various body processes. However, when there is so surplus energy, the body stores this energy in the form of glycogen or fats. When the body is in a fast, the body makes use of glycogen stored in the body, breaks them down and then utilizes them for energy since the person who is fasting is refraining from taking in food. In a period of three days, the person who is fasting will immediately feel lighter because the body has already undergone the process of glycogenolysis or breaking of stored body fat. By the end of a long fast, the person who is fasting will feel rejuvenated and a few pounds lighter.
