Australia, July 22, 2009 — The Victorian Cosmetic Institute announced today that they have invested in new technology with the addition of the fractional carbon dioxide laser to extend suite of Lasers available for Cosmetic treatments at their Melbourne clinics.

When questioned on the decision Dr Gavin Chan managing director of TVCI stated “The Ultrapulse Fractional CO2 laser is the most powerful laser in its class and is at the cutting edge of new laser technologies. We invested in the fractional technology because increasingly patients were asking for a procedure that could resurface wrinkles and improve skin texture without too much downtime or risk.”

Dr Chan then went on to say “Traditionally, skin resurfacing with lasers, although effective, would take weeks to heal from, and in today’s busy society, not many people can afford this time. Fractional carbon dioxide (co2) lasers offer patients a happy medium – 80 to 90% of the results of the older lasers, with less than half of the recovery time and risk.”

“The recovery time from this new laser is usually 3 to 7 days, compared with the older (unfractionated) carbon dioxide lasers which usually took 2 or more weeks to heal from as well as the fact that they had significantly more complications than the new fractional lasers.”

When asked how the laser delivers these results Dr Chan said “The Fractionated laser achieves this by fractionating the laser beam. Small columns of laser are fired into the skin, and in between these columns the skin is not affected. The unaffected skin helps to heal the adjacent columns of treated skin.”

Dr Chan also said that at the institute “we are continually assessing new cosmetic enhancement treatments and equipment in order to offer our patient’s the best possible results with least amount of downtime or discomfort.
