Dallas, Texas, September 04, 2009 — Less than six months after celebrating the company’s fifth year in business, the management at Frame Destination is pleased to announce the addition of its latest product line: raw uncut mat boards.
Frame Destination now offers three different types of bulk mat board; top quality four- and eight ply acid-free archival and a budget-priced four-ply variety made from buffered paper. The archival-quality sheet mat board is from Bainbridge, one of the leading manufacturers of this material. These raw mat board sheets are approximately 32” by 40” inches wide, and are for skilled framers who do their own cutting.
While cutting sheet mat board to fit requires the proper tools and a fair amount of experience, it offers two major advantages: first of all, the cost is substantially lower, and secondly, it allows experienced framers to create custom mats for frames they themselves already have available or have constructed themselves.
Company founder and owner Mark Rogers – who is himself a photographer – advises that raw mat board sheets are NOT cut “exactly 32×40 in size or square” (it may be as much as 1/16” under or 1/4” over that size), but points out that it is the least expensive. Rogers says, “Since we have no cutting labor we can sell it for less.” In this case, that means prices ranging from as little as $7.96 per sheet for basic Papermat 4 Ply to the company’s top-of-the-line Bainbridge AlphaRag 8 Ply mat board starting out at $49.96 per sheet.
Located in Dallas, Texas, Frame Destination started out as a home-based business in its founder’s garage and today operates out of an 11,000-square-foot facility. While the demands of the business have required that Rogers largely give up his own photography, he has few regrets.
