Freedom’s Just Another Word: Memoirs of a Trying Time

F

Dan L. Hays’s Freedom’s Just Another Word is a gripping account of the author’s life as it was spinning out of control and seemingly being pushed askew by some outside force.

The memoir is set in Houston, Texas in 1987. Without a dime to his name, out of work and struggling with thoughts of suicide, the author was called back home—his father was dying. Struggling with the pain and hurt from a childhood with an emotionally absent father, the author must face this man who psychologically abandoned him and deal with memories of abuse and neglect.

Despite the desperate circumstances surrounding this memoir, i.e. alcoholism and loss of creativity, this is really a story of hope and self-discovery that explores all aspects of family dynamics, the grief process, and healing. This is a book about spiritual growth that will certainly help others move through the challenges faced in their own lives as they relate to the author’s revealing story.

Dan L. Hays’s passion has always been for writing. He has been writing for over twenty years with this being his first published book. This is the first of a seven book series that are all about healing the old wounds left by his father. The series will culminate with Nothing Left to Lose, written in 1993, about a critical turning point in his father’s life, depicted from a perspective of forgiveness and admiration.
