Future Bright for Indian Solar Sector

F

According to our new research report, “Indian Solar Energy Market Outlook 2012”, India’s geographical location coupled with various schemes and incentives announced by the government will accelerate the growth momentum of Indian solar power Industry.

The report says that geographical location of India provides long days of sunny weather for the majority of the year. India is located at mid-low latitude and represents one the very sunny regions of the world. Most parts receive 4-7 kWh/m2 of solar radiations each day with 250-300 sunny days throughout the year, equivalent to more than 5,000 Trillion kWh, which is far beyond the annual power consumption of India. This allows solar energy to be a viable option for generating electricity for a large proportion of the population.

Moreover, the government of India has also announced various incentives to promote solar energy in the country. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has initiated many schemes such as subsidy, concessional duty on the imports of raw material, soft loan, elimination of excise duty on specific devices/systems etc. to increase the production as well as the use of solar energy in the country. Apart from this, the Ministry has set a target of establishing 10 Million square meter solar collector area by the end of 2022.

We strongly believe that several big national and international players along with direct and indirect support provided by the government will drive the Indian solar power industry in future.
