Gearing Up for the World Expo in Shanghai

A riverside fireworks display and colorful laser performance bouncing off the most modern architectural designs the world has to offer are only two of the events planned for the opening ceremonies of the Shanghai World Expo. Although some of the surprises planned for the Expo are being kept secret, the city is undoubtedly stepping into the shoes of a world-class economic center in preparation for the May 1st to October 31st exhibition.

So confident in the display Shanghai will showcase, 192 countries and 52 international organizations have in fact confirmed their participation in the global exhibition that traditionally showcases the latest worldwide advances in architecture, engineering and technologies. An expected 70 million domestic and foreign visitors will compliment the to-date largest exhibition area, some 5.28 sq kilometers.

To smooth foreigners’ visits to the Shanghai Expo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has even adopted an easier entry visa policy for its duration.
