Guarantee in Event of Overbooking

Cultuzz will reimburse losses arising from availability and room price transmission errors in the “CultSwitch” channel management system

Berlin, 22 Dec 2010
Attractive guarantee in event of overbooking: Cultuzz Digital Media, Berlin, is offering compensation in the event of technical transmission errors regarding availability and room prices via “CultSwitch”. If synchronisation of the fully-automated data communication between the hotel’s PMS and booking portals is subject to a time delay or failure, resulting in an overbooking, Cultuzz will absorb the costs of accommodation in another hotel. In the event of a room sale at too low a price, Cultuzz will shoulder the lost revenue.

“We thus guarantee hoteliers trouble-free dealings with internet sales channels,” says Dr. Reinhard Vogel, Managing Director of Cultuzz Digital Media. The guarantee costs 0.2 percent of booking sales. “Even with continuous optimisation and adjustments to our hardware and software and despite all the safety nets we have built into ‘CultSwitch’, we cannot completely rule out the possibility that an interface will not work flawlessly at some point,” adds Vogel. “But we can offer a guarantee. That’s why in future we want to provide no-quibble compensation for any losses our customers sustain in the event of a transmission error.”

Hoteliers are advised to market their rooms on as many different online distribution channels as possible in order to fill their capacities. The fully-automated data exchange of room availability and prices between the hotel and the various distribution systems is effected via a channel management system such as “CultSwitch” from Cultuzz.

In recent years, technical developments in hotel channel management systems have advanced considerably. Quick and secure data communication between hotels and the various booking platforms, based on the XML exchange format, is now possible. Nevertheless, in rare cases data synchronisation with the relevant interfaces may be subject to time delays or failure as a result of technical problems. From the point of view of distribution platforms, responsibility for these technical issues lies solely with the hotelier, even if a certified channel management system is being used.

It is precisely at this point that Cultuzz steps in, relieving the hotelier of the risk of availability or rate disparities. Cultuzz now optionally offers a comprehensive guarantee of performance for “CultSwitch”. This guarantee covers all technical problems in data synchronisation which fall within Cultuzz’ area of responsibility and can be taken out for all distribution channels connected to “CultSwitch”. These include the global reservation systems Amadeus, Sabre, Worldspan, Galileo, and Pegasus, many booking platforms such as HRS, Booking, Expedia, hotel.de, ehotel, and eBay, and destination portals like Tiscover and Wild-East.
Cultuzz Digital Media GmbH was founded by Dr Reinhard Vogel in Berlin in the year 2000. Subsidiaries exist in Europe, the U.S. and Australia, as well as in India. The company is specialized in online sales and distribution for the hospitality industry and is the global market leader in selling hotel rooms on eBay.
