Have you got a fetish for rubber? Not perhaps the first question you would expect to be asked in a smartphone review, but bear with us… For one of the standout features of the HTC Incredible S is its slightly peculiar rubberised cover.
With a sizeable touchscreen (4 inches) and a ridged back made of matte black rubber that gives the phone an industrial look, the Incredible S is a refreshingly different looking device set apart from the rest of the smartphone market.
The only let down looks-wise is the front, which has a sizeable bezel above the screen housing the speaker. You also cannot see much when the phone is turned off – the buttons at the bottom are not visible until you switch it on.
The HTC Incredible S will give you a great multimedia experience. It packs a photographic punch with its 8 megapixel camera that’s capable of recording video in 720p, giving you the ability to capture all the best memories in an instant.
The HTC Incredible S also features SRS WOW HD, enabling you to enjoy virtual surround sound when you play back your movies.
Size wise, the Incredible S is smaller than the HTC Desire HD but larger than the HTC Desire S. Its exact dimensions are 120 x 64 x 11.7mm.
One slightly disappointing area is internal storage, which is only 8GB (and don’t get us wrong, that’s a lot of data, but less than many others on the market). This can be upgraded via micro SD card to 32GB, however.
An area of consternation is that the HTC Incredible S runs Android 2.2 Froyo, which means it does not have all the functionality of the Gingerbread operating system. However, it will be upgraded to Android 2.4 Ice Cream soon after launch.
The Android operating system is skinned with HTC Sense, making it even more usable. A powerful 1GHz processor combines with this for an excellent smartphone experience. Among the benefits of HTC Sense are offline map storage, smart rotation and a built-in library.
You can get your hands on the HTC Incredible S right now, sim free and unlocked, from Clove Technology for £406.80 including VAT.
