Hansen Surfboards Goes Barefoot to Raise Awareness for One Day Without Shoes April 5
ENCINITAS, Calif., March. 21, 2011 – Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is going barefoot April 5 to raise awareness for One Day Without Shoes.
Research from the organizers of One Day Without Shoes have found that millions of kids round the world do not own any shoes and as such, run the increased risk of infection and disease.
“We are participating in One Day Without Shoes because we want people to come into our store and ask why everyone is barefoot,” said Josh Hansen. “We’re doing this for those people who are going barefoot because they have got no choice. The impact of two shoes could be huge on somebody’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before.”
To add to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages people to leave their unwanted shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for a discounted 10% off a brand new pair of shoes or sandals for each pair donated within the store.
“The donated shoes add up pretty quickly, so whenever we are not able to keep more of them piled up at the back of the store, I drive out to Las Vegas with a trailer full of the shoes and donate them to charity so people without shoes can use them,” added Josh. “Last year I drove out there with 3,500 pounds of shoes. It is certainly one of our best programs here because we all know that it has such a huge impact.”
