Incre’DELHI’ble India – Medical Tourism with ‘Commonwealth’ Experience

I

Delhi, India: Come this October and experience the great spectacle called the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in the National Capital of India – DELHI! As per the official estimates, about 4 million people, including players, officials from 54 member countries, and a large number of supporters and tourists from all parts of the world.

And what an incredible opportunity for the National Capital Region of Delhi (NCR) to showcase itself! Indeed, the Delhi Govt. is putting in some efforts to give uplift to its image and hoping the visitors return home with a much better impression of the city. But there is one aspect to which no one has paid attention as yet.

Just a decade ago, few lucky affluent patients from India used to make it to the US or the UK for select procedures like Open Heart Surgery, or a Skin Grafting. Unlike then, today we see a paradigm shift with not only the Americans and Europeans, but also the people from the third world countries, flying to India for all sorts of medical treatments, primarily because of low cost – up to one tenth in some fields, less waiting time, and better accessibility.

See Taj without Glasses
The National Capital of Delhi offers some of the top ophthalmic & ocular surgeons, complimented with first generation technology and medical service excellence. The evolution of Laser Surgery has made the removal of eye glasses or contact lenses extremely convenient and much more affordable. While the standard Laser surgeries start from INR 20,000, the blade-less i-LASIK is accomplished in less than INR 1,00,000. Even the complex retinal surgeries are done with minimal side effects.
With CWG just around the corner, some of the leading eye-care centers have already released special packages for comprehensive eye-checkups, vision correction, contact lenses, squint correction, and many more.

Cosmetic Surgeries
Non-invasive face and neck lifts are in vogue! In the past one year, the National Capital has witnessed the mushrooming of specialized cosmetic care centers, which provide those treatments that are unavailable in the multi-specialty hospitals. Such treatments include FDA-approved ‘Thermage’ skin treatments, non-invasive body contouring, tattoo removal, non-invasive rhinoplasty, etc. These surgeries are equally effective, cost less and saves significant amount of time, as compared to the conventional surgical procedures.
Such treatments can become an incredible opportunity for such clinics during the CWG, when people would not want to miss the events, though, still get the treatments done in a jiffy.

Smile with Confidence
Ever wondered, a teeth cleaning in INR 800 or fillings starting from just INR 600? With dental treatments barely covered under insurance, the National Capital has become a hub for medical tourists. From an impacted teeth removal to the most advanced Inman Aligners, the dental clinics are all geared up to offer a broad array of dental treatments.
Most of the clinics have already announced exclusive dental packages at never-before prices especially during the CWG. Such packages would include a comprehensive dental checkup, free medical consultation, and complementary fillings to name a few.

In addition to these key medical areas, the visitors can also avail facilities for non-conventional treatments, such as Ayurveda, Homeopathy, or traditional massage therapies; chiropractic, osteopathy, executive health check-ups, free medical consultation, low-cost diagnostic tests, etc.

It is a golden opportunity in the form of the ensuing Games to propagate this very important form of tourism. The British Commonwealth consists of countries of varying degrees of affluence. There are some of the richest nations of the world like Australia, New Zealand and Canada on one hand, and some of the most developing ones from Africa, Asia and other parts.

Medical Tourism facilitators, such as AADI MediTour, are already playing an important role in this field. But something has to be done by the Governments, both Central and State to give a shot in the arm to this growing baby. Not a stone should be left unturned in order to convince each and every visitor at the time of the Commonwealth Games that Delhi NCR is indeed a high destination in Medical Tourism.
