The government has released changes to building regulations which if they go ahead could considerably increase the cost of adding a new conservatory to your home. The proposed regulations could take effect as early as 2010, they are currently in the draft consultancy phase and would be part of the 2010 version of part L of the building regulations. If the proposal does go through the cost of adding an extension including conservatories and orangeries could rise considerably.
The new regulations would mean that when people are extending their homes they may be required to spend thousands of pounds on improving the energy efficiency of their homes. It has been predicted that the extra cost of adding when adding a conservatory to your home could be as much as £2000.
The government has set itself strict targets of reducing CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030 and this scheme would go a long way to help it meet these targets. Restrictions would be put on electric heating, the walls, flooring and the glass. And although many conservatories already comply with these regulations it is a requirement to upgrade other areas of the home this will therefore add to the cost of adding a conservatory to your home considerably.
However by acting fast you can avoid paying this extra cost. By having a new conservatory installed now before the new regulations come into force you could save considerably.
