A report published by the Greater London Authority in 2002, scrutinising the cities preparations should a serious flood occur, highlights the poor state of London’s Victorian drainage and sewage systems. The report concludes: “There is a whole class of urban floods not currently included in any systematic risk assessment and warning policy. This is all the more worrying since many consider such drainage flooding to be the greatest practical threat to London at present.”
“The effects of climate change, though uncertain in detail and extent, will undoubtedly increase that risk significantly for London in coming decades,” reads a line from the opening executive summary. IQ Plumbing feel that the report hasn’t been properly addressed, and that the drainage systems in London are still effectively underprepared – a massive concern that the Government has failed to address in the years since the report was published.
“This report was available in 2002 and little has been done about it since, which is of great concern to Londoners and the city itself, especially as we have seen the threats of flooding becoming very serious across the country in recent years,” says Steve Roos of IQ Plumbing. “It has now fallen to companies such as ours to provide greater drainage infrastructure and sewage reinforcement to our clients to ensure that their systems are safe and sound should a flood occur in the capital in the near future.”
