Whether it’s a friendly game of tennis or a white-knuckle ride on a scooter, there’s no excuse for not getting outdoors this summer

W

Take a walk through your local park this summer, and the chances are you’ll see lots of different sports and games going on. From tennis to scooter and skateboard riding, there are so many things to do in the great outdoors, even if you live in a city, that there is no excuse for staying indoors and not getting out to enjoy the sunshine (while we have it!)

Tennis is a very popular British pastime in the summer and it always increases in prominence during Wimbledon – it’s also one of the games where Britain has high hopes in the 2012 Olympic Games.

But tennis is something that can be enjoyed all summer long. It’s a great sport for adults and children alike, and all you need to get you started is a tennis ball, a willing partner and some tennis rackets.

Choosing your tennis rackets, you should ask yourself a few questions. First, do you want a powerful racket, or one with more control?

The bigger the head of the racket, the more powerful it will be. If you are just starting out, don’t have a particularly strong hit or want maximum comfort from your tennis racket, choose a power racket – one with a bigger head.

More established players and those who already have a strong hit will want a smaller headed racket that will give them more control over their shots. There are of course a range of rackets in between too – it is advisable to try out a few before you buy.

Priory Sports offer a large range of tennis rackets and other tennis goods, giving you everything you need to get your tennis career started. They also provide advice, so if for example you are still not sure which is the best racket for you, you only need to ask.

The Babolat Aero Storm, for example, is a great all-rounders racket and may be perfect for you if you are just getting into tennis. It is designed to be both precise and powerful, enabling you to really up your game. Priory Sports offer the Aero Storm for £157 – an investment that will last you for years.

If you are looking for a tennis racket for your children, the Babolat Roddick Junior range (Babolat Roddick Junior 125 and Babolat Roddick Junior 140) are excellent first rackets. The combined alumnium and graphite frame make these rackets easy to use for youngsters starting out in the game. They are priced at £26 and £30 respectively.

Of course, tennis is not the only activity you can get up to in your local park. Especially if you live somewhere with lots of hills, twists and turns, then a scooter may be the object of desire for many youngsters (and those who are young at heart!)

JD Bug scooters are some of the most popular out there, and Priory Sports are proud to offer their newly modified range – which have been tweaked to make doing tricks even easier.

With such additions as full-length heavier duty grip tape and new wheels, the JD Bug Pro Pepper White and JD Bug Pro Street V3.0 Matt Black are great for tearing around the parks and streets

Priory Sports offer the JD Bug Scooters for just £55, alongside other street sports equipment including longboards and skateboards.
