Comedian Earns Standing Ovation at Metropolitan Community Church of the Palm Beaches

February 25, 2008 – Palm Beach Gardens, FL – Award-winning comedian Jade Esteban Estrada earned a standing ovation on Sunday, February 3, 2008 for his performance of “ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 2” at Metropolitan Community Church of the Palm Beaches in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The solo musical was written and performed by Estrada and directed by David Miguel Estrada. This was his second engagement at the venue.

Estrada is the 2005 Performance Artist of the Year award recipient and won the Audience Favorite Award in Solo Performance at the 2004 Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival in Columbus, Ohio and was nominated for a Spotlight-On Theatre Award for his performance of “ICONS 2” in New York.

“ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 2” debuted at the 2004 Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival. In the show he portrays such gay icons as Alexander the Great, Queen Christina of Sweden, Susan B. Anthony, Billie Jean King, Harvey Milk and 9/11 hero Mark Bingham.

Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine calls him “one of the finest solo theatre artists of the 21st century.”

Estrada performed the first show in the trilogy, “ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 1,” a show where he plays Sappho, Michelangelo, Oscar Wilde, Gertrude Stein, Sylvia Rivera and Ellen DeGeneres in June 2007 at MCC of the Palm Beaches.

After the performance, Estrada spent time with the audience signing autographs and meeting members of the audience.

Estrada has been featured on “30 Rock” and “Friday Night Lights” on NBC. He is also the face of the new designer humor line of bilingual cards from Nos Vemos Greetings and will be featured in the upcoming new film “Crosshairs” directed by Brett Mauser.
