Rediscovering the “lost” musical scores of Marcel Tyberg Katya Grineva will be premiering in Melbourne a selection of music from the rediscovered piano sonatas of Marcel Tyberg, a Viennese composer who died in World War II, and whose musical scores were thought to have vanished with his death in the concentration camps.

Melbourne, Australia, November 30, 2009 — Moscow-born Russian pianist, Katya Grineva, now living in New York, announces her first concert in Melbourne on May 29, 2010 at the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall.

As the only female solo pianist to play New York’s Carnegie Hall Isaac Stern Auditorium eleven times, Grineva’s musical style has been hailed as “…lyrical…exquisitely refined…” (The Buffalo News). Her playing has been described as “…liquid, dreamlike…” (The New York Times).

It will be the first time for Australian audiences to hear in concert, a selection of Marcel Tyberg’s piano music, along with Grineva’s interpretations of Schubert, Liszt, Satie, Bloch, Granados, Piazolla and Ravel.

In 2006, Katya Grineva was chosen by the current owner of the musical scores, Dr. Enrico Mihich,to exclusively perform and record the New York premieres of Marcel Tyberg’s Piano Sonata No. 1 and No. 2, 60 years after the musical scores were presumed lost.

Grineva, has been a soloist with the Acadiana Symphony, the ARS Nova Musicians Chamber Orchestra, the Manhattan Virtuosi Orchestra, the European Philharmonic Orchestra in France, and the Guayaquil Symphonic Orchestra in Ecuador and Avery Fisher Hall.

Grineva’s musicianship was recognized in 1998 when Steinway and Sons awarded her the honorable title of Steinway Artist. Her other awards include a special award form the New York State Shields in 2005, recipient of the Gusi Peace Prize from Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2006, and Outstanding Women award from Ercolano Italy in 2009.
