The Lowell Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard comments on a recent study that showed how quickly a dryer fire can destroy a home
The Lowell Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard is on a mission to educate consumers to prevent dryer fires while increasing dryer performance and efficiency. Webb Dickson owns Dryer Vent Wizard, specializing in all dryer vent services for homes and businesses in Middlesex and Essex Counties in Massachusetts and the entire state of New Hampshire.
Dryer vent service technicians and dryer manufacturers advise proper care and maintenance to prevent dryer fires. A recent study by a lab in New York showed just how easily a dryer fire can ignite and how quickly it can spread to completely destroy a home.
The test involved modifying a clothes dryer and installing tiny cameras inside. The engineers blew lint into the dryer’s heater and then turned on the appliance. Within twenty seconds the camera showed a piece of lint burning, but it went out. Ten seconds later, another scrap of lint burns inside the heating element where it causes more lint to ignite. A few seconds later, the back of the dryer is on fire and smoke fills the room.
Since the test was performed under safe laboratory conditions, with nothing to fuel the flames, the fire soon burned itself out. “Imagine the outcome if this were to occur in a cluttered laundry area,” said Dickson. “That small flame that manages to escape from the back of the dryer to ignite nearby items could quickly destroy a home.”
The Wizard recalls a recent dryer fire in Seaville, NJ, where a faulty dryer vent system caused a fire that completely destroyed a home. The homeowner was taking a nap when he was awakened by his smoke alarm. The family of four escaped safely, but they lost everything. Their home was completely destroyed
Dryer vent cleaning and professional dryer vent installation by the Wizard will ensure dryer safety and efficiency. Small amounts of lint will quickly burn out; however, when allowed to accumulate, it becomes fuel to feed a rapidly spreading fire.
Over 17,000 dryer fires occur annually, causing property damage, injuries and deaths. Dryer lint is highly flammable and all it takes is a small spark from the inside of the dryer cabinet to cause a devastating fire. Professional dryer vent installation followed by regular dryer vent cleaning ensures dryer safety and efficiency.
